Too many thrifted items to choose from!
I arrived in Fort Saskatchewan in 1968 in a “mini”, along with my husband and nine-month old son number one. Some of my volunteering highlights include: Mom Day Out Program (I had 3 boys and needed this!), fun with Cubs, Scout Jamboree in Kananaskis.
My husband had a work expedition to Scotland that included taking the whole family there to live for a few years. And this culminated with a Scottish daughter-in-law!
When we came back home from Scotland, new daughter-in-law and I started the Toy Box store in the old mall. There I learned accounting (old school style by hand in ledger books). Little did I know how that skill was going to come in handy in the future. When Twice But Nice was “newish” to the community – I was invited to a Board Meeting. And I’m still here!!
After Anne Springman retired from the TBN Board, I assumed the Treasurer position for about 10 years. And that’s where my accounting I learned from the store came in real handy. TBN was using ledger books at that time as well!
As a Board and a Store over the years we survived flood, fire, construction of a new building and many years of giving back to our community.
The present store is welcoming and shows signs of continuous improvements and surprises as of late…..like the mural of flowers on the exterior wall. I am always fascinated by the window displays – continuously changing and artistically showing off our wares. I’ve been with this organization to see many changes and the one thing that doesn’t change are the people that work and volunteer for this organization – we've been lucky to have high caliber volunteers and staff.
