Thursday, March 13, 2023 - Dow Centennial Centre
Twice But Nice (TBN) held their Annual Meeting at the DCC on March 23, 2023 where they shared their 2022 Financials and Achievements, 2023 Goals, recognized one retiring Director, elected one new Director, and heard from their Grantees.
President, Judy Rehill shared “Last year we granted over $23,000 to 11 organizations for 13 projects within our community, an increase of 53% over the previous year’s grants.”
Twice But Nice saw continued growth and improvements in 2022 including: hiring of a new Store Manager in March; completion of the City of Fort Saskatchewan Storefront Improvement Grant which included a shelter at the back of the store, a new backlit sign with our updated logo, signage at the back door, painting for the front of the store and large planters at both the front and back; implementation of Quickbooks for payroll and financial reporting; Board Job Descriptions and welcome package for new Directors; development and implementation of Health and Safety Program; marketing improvements; and a Board Development Workshop.
Judy shared a sneak peek at 2023 stating, “Some of our high level goals for this year include: refining our Health & Safety Program; developing terms of reference for our newly established standing committees – Health & Safety, Finance and Governance; research and installation of a chair style cargo lift on the back set of stairs which will greatly assist in the safety of our staff and volunteers; roof replacement investigation; and holding our first annual donor and customer appreciation event.”
Retiring Board member Marian Kluthe was recognized for her years of Board service and it is with great gratitude she will continue volunteering within the store.
The “Notice to Reader” prepared by HT & Associates indicated the society is in excellent financial health, with targeted investments for future needs, such as truck replacement, roof repairs, etc. Treasurer, Gail Zabolotny stated, “The store had a good year in 2022, with sales over 30% higher than 2021. It is within possibility that by 2025, the 40th anniversary of Twice But Nice, we may reach an overall grant distribution of one million dollars back to the community.”
Store Manager, Carmen Randell presented the Store Report – highlighting the 2022 achievement of store goals: 5-star reviews on social media; weekly sales to clear out stock and increase foot traffic resulted in 25% increase in social media followers; sales increase of 30% over 2021; over $3700 worth of clothing and household items provided at no cost to families in need from store inventory; successful Ukrainian Refugees fundraiser; multiple improvements to workflow and safe work conditions; and completion of both internal and external store improvements. Carmen stated, “On March 12th, I hit the floor running and because of our amazing staff, volunteers and donors this year has gone by in a blink of an eye! I am especially proud of the completion of the Store external improvements project and the month-over-month sales improvements that our team has been able to achieve. We are lucky to have a staff with years of knowledge and experience along with a group of volunteers that put in 3,149 hours equating to over $47,000 in wages.”
“We are proud of our achievements in 2022 and goals for 2023 and we realize we are only able to do these things because of the wonderful staff and volunteers that work for Twice But Nice. And of course, none of this is possible without the community’s continued generous donations and patronage of the store,” concluded Judy.
