These are the Grantees who gave reports on how donated funds were used within their respective organization.
Twice But Nice (TBN) held their Annual Meeting on April 25, at the DCC where they shared their 2023 Financials and Achievements, 2024 Goals, recognized retiring Directors, elected new Directors, and heard from their Grantees.
President, Judy Rehill stated “2023 was a busy year with increases in donations, sales, grants to the community in addition to completion of several capital and operational projects.”
Twice But Nice annual highlights included: granting of over $30,000 back into the community; keeping well over 48 tonnes out the landfill through their downlining program (excludes inventory sold in the store); 3,547 volunteer hours that total $53,000 in wages; 30% increase in donations of clothing and household items; installation of a new roof; installation of a cargo stair lift; replacement of all lighting within the store to LED; a full year of Health & Safety Program; increased social media coverage; expanded Scholarship Program and being honoured by the local Chamber of Commerce as the Non-Profit Organization of the year.
Judy shared a sneak peek at 2024 stating, “Redesign of our payment counter, continuing interior painting, revamp of our staff kitchen/workroom area, an external Health & Safety Audit, review of our policies and procedures, as well as compensation standards are items on our task list for this year.”
Retiring Board members Phyllis Waite & Rosanne Frey were recognized for their many years of service. Two new Directors, Lyn Ferris-Smith and Seanna Baxter, were brought on board during the Annual Meeting. The organization is actively seeking one new Director for the Board.
The Financial Statements prepared by Jay Hur Professional Corporation indicated the society is in excellent financial health, with targeted investments for future needs, such as truck replacement, roof replacement, etc. Treasurer Gail Zabolotny stated, “The store had a good year in 2023, with sales over 20% higher than the previous year. It is within possibility that by 2025, the 40th anniversary of Twice But Nice, we may reach an overall grant distribution of one million dollars back to the community.”
Store Manager, Carmen Randell presented the Store Report – highlighting the 2023 achievement of store goals: increasing the customer base; improving customer service; several inventory management improvements; and multiple safety upgrades which included installation of a defibulator, knoxbox, new display shelves, and replacement of all old storage racks in the basement. Carmen stated, “We had our first customer appreciation event last year where we introduced Twice But Nice reusable tote bags. They were such a hit we now use them for our semi-annual fill-a-bag sales. We also created our senior discount day which has been very popular with our aged 60+ customers. In addition to our community grants, our mission to help community member in crisis with clothing and household items helped almost 60 families last year totaling close to $7,000.”
“We are proud of our achievements in 2023 and goals for 2024 and we realize that we are only able to do these things because of the wonderful staff and volunteers that work for Twice But Nice. And of course, none of this is possible without the community’s continued generous donations and patronage of the store,” concluded Judy.
