Lyn Ferris-Smith
With a thrifted puzzle from TBN
I moved to Fort Saskatchewan when I was about 10 years old. When I was in my twenties we moved to Redwater.
Working on the farm in Redwater for about 15 years, introduced me to the "Working Dog", as we had over 200 ewes to look after. Our sheep were the first to be part of Fort Saskatchewan environmental grass mowers - 30 years ago!
As a result of the sheep farming I started breeding Australian Shepherds to work on the farm. This required intensive training and trailing with the dogs. This lead to many dog trials within the western provinces and northern United States - where the dogs were judged on their drive and ability. I was an active member of the The Australian Shepherd Club of America and The Canadian Kennel Club for many years.
As like so many others who spend their formative years in Fort Saskatchewan, we moved back about 20 years ago. My career of 35 years was spent at various Oil and Gas companies within the area, starting in warehousing/inventory and progressing to several senior buyer positions.
When I am not caring for my remaining dogs, I am busy quilting - another passion of mine. Over the last several years I have donated some of my creations to local charities as part of their fundraising online auctions.
I was impressed by the contributions TBN gives back to our community and have donated many times to them. It is so rewarding to be involved at the Director’s level and be able to give back to our community in a different, yet worthwhile way!
