Twice But Nice celebrated its 40th Anniversary by giving back to the community in a significant way. More than 40 attendees, including representatives from local non-profits, the City, former Board members, staff, and volunteers joined the celebration.
“Throughout the year, we’ve marked our 40th anniversary with in-store contests, fun facts on our social media, and a special anniversary logo on our bag-sale bags,” said TBN President, Judy Rehill. “But the heart of our celebration has always been our commitment to reinvesting in the community.”
As part of their anniversary initiative, Twice But Nice awarded grants to six local non-profit organizations:
Fort Saskatchewan Community Band Society – $10,000 for percussion equipment
Fort Saskatchewan Families First Society – $5,000 for conferencing equipment
Fort Gymnastics Club – $10,000 for upgraded equipment
Fort Saskatchewan Multicultural Association – $5,000 for a PA system
Heartland Grow Your Own Association – $10,000 for farm equipment
Fort Saskatchewan Public Library – $10,000 for the Imagination House Project
The cheque presentations were held in recognition of a milestone: on December 5, 1985—exactly 40 years ago—the Twice But Nice Clothing Society was officially registered as a non-profit under the Alberta Societies Act.
There were a few surprises along the way. Twice But Nice typically does not fund capital projects through its annual granting program of $25,000–$35,000. Additionally, although the original anniversary budget earmarked $40,000 for community investment, the 40th Anniversary Committee recommended increasing the amount by an additional $10,000. The Board unanimously agreed. “When you think about it, it’s the clothing and household items donated through our back door, by our community, that make contributions like this possible,” Rehill said. “Today was such a meaningful way for our Board, Staff and Volunteers to end our year-long celebration of 40 years serving this community.”
